Water Hygiene Services
Our Water Hygiene Services
DryZone provides Water Hygiene services for cold and hot water storage systems as well as the wider water distribution system. Depending on the type and condition of the installation, the appropriate service may involve physical cleaning, disinfection or additional water testing.
Cold Water Storage Tank Cleaning
Cold water storage tanks can accumulate sediment, debris and other contamination over time, particularly where water movement is limited or maintenance has been irregular.
DryZone cleans cold water storage tanks and cisterns, including attic or loft tanks commonly used to supply gravity-fed and open-vented domestic water systems, as well as other accessible cold water storage vessels.
Professional cleaning removes accumulated material from the tank and helps restore the storage vessel to a cleaner and more hygienic condition.

Hot Water Cylinder Cleaning
DryZone cleans both vented and unvented hot water cylinders.
Vented or open-vented cylinders are typically supplied by a cold water storage tank located in the attic or loft, while unvented cylinders are pressurised systems normally supplied directly from the mains.
Cleaning is carried out according to the cylinder type, its condition and the configuration of the hot water system, with the aim of removing accumulated sediment and internal deposits.

Water System Disinfection
Cleaning and disinfection perform different functions.
Where microbial contamination is suspected or confirmed, or where a water system requires hygienic treatment, DryZone can disinfect the relevant storage and distribution system.
Legionella bacteria are a particular concern in water systems where stagnation, sediment accumulation or unsuitable water temperatures create conditions that support bacterial growth. Appropriate disinfection can help reduce Legionella contamination and form part of a wider approach to managing water hygiene risks.
The appropriate disinfection method and scope of treatment depend on the system, its condition and the reason for the service.

Signs Your Water System May Need Attention
When Should Water Hygiene Services Be Considered?
Water Hygiene services may be appropriate not only when contamination has already been identified, but also in situations where the condition of a stored water system may have changed over time.
They may be considered:
- after a long period of little or no water use;
- following repairs, alterations or changes to the water system;
- as part of planned maintenance for tanks, cylinders or stored water systems;
- where contamination has been identified through inspection or water testing;
- when a system has not been cleaned or assessed for an extended period;
- before returning a stored water system to normal use after prolonged inactivity.
The need for cleaning, disinfection or testing depends on the specific system and its condition. Water Hygiene work should therefore be based on an assessment of the situation rather than carried out as a fixed procedure for every property.
Why Choose DryZone for Water Hygiene?
Water Hygiene problems do not always require the same solution. One system may need physical cleaning, another may require disinfection, water testing or a combination of services.
DryZone assesses each system individually and recommends the scope of work according to its actual condition.
With DryZone, you can access:
- professional cleaning of cold water storage tanks and hot water cylinders;
- water system disinfection where required;
- rapid in-house screening for selected microbiological indicators;
- if necessary, certified laboratory testing conducted by an accredited partner
- additional assessment of water quality parameters beyond microbiology;
- practical recommendations based on the condition of the system and available test results.
Where additional records are required, DryZone can also provide supporting documentation such as a completed works report, photographs, recommendations, cleaning or disinfection protocols and laboratory results where testing has been ordered.
These documents are available as additional services and are not automatically included in the standard cleaning service.

FAQs
The exact scope depends on the condition and type of water system. Depending on the situation, the service may involve cleaning a cold water storage tank, cleaning a hot water cylinder, disinfecting the water system or recommending additional water testing. Supporting documentation, photographs and test results can be provided separately where required.
Cleaning is focused on removing physical contamination such as sediment, debris and deposits from tanks or cylinders. Disinfection is a separate process intended to treat microbiological contamination, including bacteria such as Legionella, within the water system. In some situations, both may be required.
Not in every case. Water testing is an additional service and may be useful where microbiological contamination is suspected, where confirmation is required before work, or where the condition of the water needs to be checked after treatment.
DryZone can provide rapid non-accredited screening or arrange certified testing through an accredited partner laboratory.
The time required depends on the type and size of the system, its condition, accessibility and whether the work involves cleaning, disinfection or both.
A straightforward tank or cylinder cleaning may require considerably less time than treatment of a larger or more complex water system. DryZone can give a clearer indication once the system and required scope of work have been assessed.
This depends on the type of work carried out.
Following physical cleaning, the system may need to be refilled and checked before being returned to normal use. After disinfection, the treatment process must be fully completed and the system flushed or otherwise prepared as required before normal use resumes.
DryZone will advise when the treated system can be returned to service.
There is no single cleaning interval that is appropriate for every water system.
The need for cleaning depends on factors such as the condition of the vessel, water usage, sediment accumulation, periods of stagnation, previous maintenance and any evidence of contamination.
Rather than cleaning solely according to a fixed timetable, the system should be assessed according to its actual condition and use.
